Above the screen of the Sony HX100V is the electronic viewfinder. Definition much smaller, it is nevertheless quite usable, the most important information is readable without overloading the display. The system "eye-start" is very convenient but a little less reactive than the HS20EXR. A dedicated button located on the top of the device to force the switch LCD / EVF. The viewfinder has a diopter correction to accommodate all views.
The eye relief is sufficient for not glued to the screen. To the right of the viewfinder, there is the play button and the record button to direct the video.
Sony HX100V Handling
The right of the LCD are menu buttons, the arrow keys and a key for accessing the user guide. The latter, handy for beginners, will not necessarily be useful for advanced users that seems to be for this camera. It is very unfortunate that it can not be re-assigned to another shortcut. The arrow keys, in addition to their role in navigation menus, are given several shortcuts:
- Customize the display screen,
- Flash mode (Auto, forced, slow sync, second curtain or stopped). The flash does not have a touch of dedicated output. When its use is authorized, simply press the shutter button halfway to ensure that: practice!
- Burst (Single image, continuous or AEB). We may still regret that the speed selection does not come directly here and forced to go through the menu.
- Self timer (2s, 10s, or more than one self-portrait 2). If their use is no problem, I find the plastic particularly "cheap" on a camera in this class.
Over this set of keys, a click wheel ensures the change of various shooting parameters: speed, aperture, sensitivity and exposure compensation (even video).
A single click can switch from one to another. Note that the "P Mode" is "offset" (change the opening speed torque retaining the exposure settings) via this dial.
But Sony HX100V has, in my opinion, not sufficiently pushed his thinking ergonomic when the user is positioned in aperture priority, for example, is that he wants to consciously change this setting. Why in the world, to force him to click the trackwheel to scroll to the openings? In addition, the selection is set to change automatically abandoned (the last set value anyway) after 5 seconds once again forced to re-click if you want to re-access.
Worse, if you set the sensitivity in aperture priority mode, the focus remains in this setting. It will be necessary, after the 5 seconds to click two times on the dial to set the aperture to go! It's not what I call a method "priority"!
